Hendrix had already written several introductions for Valancourt books, so when Valancourt read through his horror history book, they knew it could spark a new series. The story started at another publisher entirely: Quirk Books, which in 2017 published a history of 70s and 80s horror paperbacks by author Grady Hendrix, Paperbacks From Hell , which took a loving but irreverent romp through all of retro horror fiction's exorcisms, killer animals and, in one case, Nazi leprechauns. ![]()
